Naho Kamada: Producing Cutlery that’s Made to Last

Naho Kamada encapsulates the beauty of the gesture. She was initiated into the world of copperware by Takejiro Hasegawa, part of the third generation of a family that specialises in metal utensils used in the tea ceremony, before spreading her wings in 2008, with a desire to produce objects that would find their place in the everyday lives of lovers of sustainable design.
She selects pliable, often precious metals, and subjects them to her gentle and precise action. To do this, Kamada uses wooden tools. These allow her to be in perfect command of her gestures and the impact they produce. The aim of this artist and metalworker, who is also a jewellery designer, is to breathe new life into a traditional art by producing modern pieces with clean lines, everyday objects which are built to last.
