Indigo master Noriyuki Murata has been honing his craft for most of is life in the hills of a sleepy town that lies 80 minutes northwest of Tokyo. As a third-generation dyer, Murata is a natural treasure in Japan. His stained, blue hands represent his unwavering passion and dedication to an art that’s disappearing as demand exceeds supply. Murata says his relationship with indigo is an unpredictable and ever-changing learning experience.
