Halfway between contemporary art installation and an Haute Couture fashion show, Anrealage creates clothing that is both wearable and spectacular. Renowned for its intelligent textiles that make light an integral part of its creation, this Japanese brand never ceases to surprise the fashion world. Anrealage, which is the contraction of the English words real, unreal and age, was created by the designer Kunihiko Morinaga, in 2003, in Tokyo.
In celebration of the fifteenth anniversary of the brand, Anrealage has launched 15th book ANREALAGE 26, illustrating the most recent show entitled ‘A light a light collection’, which presented all past collections in one go. The number 26 present in the title refers to the alphabet, or more precisely the letters from A to Z, which directly echo the logo ‘AZ’ of the mark.
The catwalk took place last October in Tokyo – for the first time in almost five years – and was immortalised by Singaporean photographer Leslie Kee. The artist attended the preparations for the show and had behind the scenes access for a whole day. With the help of the artistic director Tsugaya Inoue, they created this photobook together, that subtly succeeds in rendering technology poetic.
Since its inception, Morinaga has conquered the fashion world through unique creations that are similar to artistic constructions, suggesting that each outfit was built thread by thread, point by point and button by button. The strength of the Tokyo designer lies in his atypical approach to fashion and his imagination of silhouettes at the same time technical, aesthetic and luminous.
This artistic and technological prowess allows the designer to create new illusions through clothing, thus blending the real and the unreal with striking games of light which can be discovered at his next show in the Parisian capital.
15th book ANREALAGE 26 is available in a limited version (300 copies) on the brand’s website.
