Coppersmith Yumi Nakamura attaches great importance to both style and function with the objects she creates. Born in Saitama Prefecture in 1981, she uses the hammering technique, marking each of her creations with her own personality. Yumi Nakamura attributes her penchant for copper to its warm appearance, its antibacterial properties, and its capacity to make tea taste richer.
A technical feat
Her kettles, made from a single piece of metal that has been expertly manipulated, catch the eye. There is something seductive about the elegance of their finish: wooden handles and side handles or ingenious pouring spouts. The coppersmith first experimented with cutlery before moving on to larger pieces, gracefully accepting the technical challenges that come with this transition.
Yumi Nakamura’s pieces are available from various online shops that the creator lists on her website.
