Hideaki Shikama creates clothing that tells his story. In 2011, the designer launched Children of the Discordance, imbued with nostalgia for the US rap scene of the 1990s and with an obvious penchant for the clothing of the period.
Fashion and Fair Trade
His brand is committed to fair trade production and the designer demonstrates a sense of political engagement that is still rare for the Japanese fashion scene. For his first runway show during Tokyo Fashion Week, Hideaki Shikama titled his collection in homage to Nas’s album Illmatic (1994), and in particular the term ‘rhythmatic’ from the song ‘It Ain’t Hard to Tell.’
The runway shows and creations that have followed tirelessly examine Hideaki Shikama’s memories.
The designer’s work can be viewed on his Instagram account.
