Kiev’s Pink Cafe Project Dedicated to Japanese Desserts

In Japanese, amai hana means 'sweet flower.' In Kiev, it's the name of a café project specialising in Japanese desserts.

The relatively small surface area (52 m2) didn’t discourage Ukranian design studio Z. River. The designer duo made it their mission to create a space washed in pink from floor to ceiling. The furniture in Amai Hana sticks to the essentials: the chairs and tables, which are transparent or pale pink, act as an extension of the walls, with the exception of a pair of Cala armchairs by Kettal in a contrasting red. In this space, which uses a colour palette ranging from powder pink to terracotta, the designers focused particularly on texture: as you look up towards the ceiling, you notice natural materials that have been worked in a complex manner. The shiny PVC floor thus gives way to wooden dowels that cover the wall.

On the 3D rendering of the project, these also cover the whole ceiling. There are over 4000 of them, placed in an irregular arrangement and varying in length (they measure between 15 and 35 cm). It’s contained chaos, the designers explain, created to evoke ‘the chaotic and rhythmic nature of a bamboo grove.’
